Welcome to the Beacon Dental Group

Dr. van Wijlen has been in private dental practice since 1984. Originally from Vancouver B.C., he has lived in Beaconsfield since the age of six, attending Beaconsfield High School and John Abbott College. After obtaining a DDS degree at McGill University, Dr. van Wijlen completed a General Practice Residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Dr. van Wijlen is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, L’Ordre des Dentistes du Quebec, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Canadian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, and the Montreal Dental Club. He has also been a part-time Faculty lecturer at McGill University, lecturing on Adhesion, Aesthetics and Ethics, and until recently a member of the John Abbott Dental Advisory Board. Dr. van Wijlen believes strongly in giving back to the community, being involved in numerous charitable organizations and as a board member of NOVA West Island, and in his spare time enjoys sailing, kayaking, hiking, climbing, skiing, and water colour painting. He has also been “learning” the saxophone for ten years. The Beacon Dental Group begain originally as the dental practice of Dr. Donald Chaloner who opened his practice in Beurepaire Village in 1955. Many of the original patients from that era remain patients to this day. Dr. van Wijlen took over the clinic in 1985 after a short associateship with Dr. Chaloner. After 18 years the clinic moved to its present location on the waterfront in Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue.
