When I was young, I learned that I was missing several permanent teeth. The idea then, of becoming a dentist, having had such an alarming start, would have been out of the question. Still a reluctant and fearful patient, I met a new dentist later on who explained my situation in terms I could understand.  With growing trust, I began what would be years of complex treatment.  It was his engaged and supportive approach that triggered my interest in the profession, and coincidentally, that dentist ended up mentoring me in dental school. Decades later, my favourite part of the day is working through fears or barriers with my patients, and creating a comprehensive plan tailored to their needs. My greatest  joy is seeing that plan come to life in restored health, improved function, or even a whole new smile.
